Mount KilimanjaroSix routes to the roof of Africa
Kilimanjaro is a trek, not a technical climb — no ropes or climbing skill required. What decides your experience is which route you take and how many days you give it.
All six routes at a glance
Longer routes cost more in park fees and crew, but give your body more time to adjust to altitude — the single biggest factor in how summit night goes.
Client action needed: route pricing is not published on the current site. Send per-person rates for each route and they will display on these cards automatically.
Questions climbers ask us
There is no honest single answer, and we will not quote a success-rate percentage we cannot verify. What is well established is that more days on the mountain means better acclimatisation, which is why longer routes like Lemosho and the Northern Circuit are generally recommended over the shortest option.
No. Every standard route is a walking trek — no ropes, harnesses or technical skill. General fitness, a sensible pace and proper acclimatisation matter far more. The Barranco Wall involves light scrambling with your hands, but no equipment.
January to March and June to October are the two clearest windows. March to May brings the long rains, which makes trails muddy and views unreliable — though the Rongai route on the northern side stays comparatively dry.
You should be comfortable walking five to seven hours on consecutive days. Hill walking, stair climbing and long hikes in the months beforehand are the most useful preparation. Altitude affects people unpredictably — being very fit helps, but makes nobody immune.
Park, camping or hut fees, rescue fees, certified guides and porters, all meals on the mountain, group camping equipment and gate transfers. Personal gear, sleeping bag, travel insurance, hotel nights either side and crew tips are not included.
